Romper's Road Trip
|
Due to the popularity of “Newman’s Bug Adventure”, Ron decided to go back in to the studio and give his collector’s what the want – another pup in a truck! For his inspawration for this piece he pulled out his boxes of pups and trucks and found the following photos from the past.
The pup for this piece was from a photo he took a number of years ago at Canine Companions for Independence. They raise their dogs from the puppy stage to aid in the day-to-day dealings of people with disabilities, often opening doors, changing one’s socks, picking up thinks dropped to the floor and so on. Ron loved seeing all the dogs but found it extremely hard to comply with the rules to “not pet the pups” as part of their training program. |
When Ron does a commission for someone, he paints the exact likeness of a specific dog, however when painting a pup in a truck, Ron takes his artistic license and focuses on capturing the shear spirit and enthusiasm that our canines show for their love to go on a road trip.
Ron goes to as many vintage vehicle shows as his time allows, often traveling around town with his camera in tow, just in case the right vehicle catches his eye. For “Romper’s Road Trip” he found the image of an old Chevy pick-up that had photographed years ago at a show in Sedona, AZ. Much as with taking artistic license with “Romper”, Ron painted this truck in a color that enhances the image of the pup – so instead of a yellow truck, he did a green one. A yellow truck would not have made “Romper” stand out from his background.

| The only thing better than a painting of an old vintage truck is one with an over-exuberant pup hanging from the window waiting to travel along. |
