Who is Zeke?
Zeke had generalized demodex and a severe skin infection. He wasn't contagious but was very sore and required extensive, expensive medical treatment. When he first came in as a stray, he was almost dead, was almost completely bald and couldn't even lift his head. His feet were huge with infection. He had to be carried everywhere, but when you'd speak to him; he still managed to wag his tail

One of the things that HSSV does that makes us stand out is that we invest medically in those lives that perhaps in other shelters would be euthanized as a lost case. Although it was a long road, HSSV staff and volunteers never gave up on Zeke and today, he is a healthy, boisterous, furry 1 year old golden retriever who lives with a loving family.

About the Humane Society of Silicon Valley

Ron speaking HSSV's groundbreaking ceremony |
Innovation. Visionary ideas, and the resources to bring them to life. Brilliant solutions to tough challenges. That's what Silicon Valley is all about. And when it comes to developing creative, effective approaches to animal welfare challenges, with your help, Humane Society Silicon Valley is setting an exceptional standard.
Today, we are in the midst of an ambitious campaign that has helped to transform our organization from a traditional animal shelter into a one-of-a-kind Animal Community Center, where animals and people deepen their bonds. |
Our new Center highlights:
-
A bold new approach to animal placement -- allowing for as many as 10,000 adoptions each year
-
A comfortable, home-like "adoption galleria" for dogs, cats, and rabbits, inviting people to get to know prospective pets
-
The resources to guarantee a well-matched, successful adoption -- including an education center, daycare/boarding and grooming for dogs, Whole Pets pet supply store, an affordable spay/neuter, vaccination and microchip medical center, a pet-friendly café. And classes with lasting impact -- that let people and animals enjoy each other and grow together
Environmentally “Green” Building
Traditionally, animal shelters have, by necessity, been huge consumers of water and other resources. We’ve changed all that, starting with a new facility that will reuse more than 90 percent of the materials from the building previously on our new site. We’re also building-in water savings and massive energy-efficiency to create a "green" structure that will meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards set by the national Green Building Council -- a level of sustainability never before achieved with all of these services and programs under one roof.
Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, People Everybody Benefits
Research documents the many benefits animal companions deliver: They improve the quality of life for seniors, teach young people responsibility and compassion, and get families outdoors for fresh air, exercise, and fun. For abandoned or neglected animals, successful placement in a loving home is a new beginning -- and our community is the place that can reinvent animal welfare and reinforce positive values.
You Can Help Us Create A National Model For Saving Lives
With help from visionary, entrepreneurial supporters like you, we have built a special place that celebrates the Valley’s innovative spirit and sets an example for shelters nationwide. This campaign is about far more than just a new building. It’s about breaking the heartwrenching cycle of abandoned pets and animal overpopulation. It’s about the transformative combination of big ideas and dedicated community -- saving lives, catalyzing new beginnings, ensuring happy endings.
Join Us
Humane Society Silicon Valley celebrates the joyous outcomes of lasting animal-human bonds. But we're also about using creativity to solve important challenges, like pet overpopulation and euthanasia, and the lack of commitment that can lead people to surrender animals. We are still working toward our goal of $25 million to finish paying for this center that is already changing the face of animal welfare and saving more lives than ever. We invite you to be a part of the New Beginnings Circle of Friends as an innovator, a problem-solver, and a partner.
